How to use Güvercin Yeri: search, live races and record corrections
Güvercin Yeri is a platform that brings together race results, bird records and pedigree documents imported from different sources in one place. In this article we describe the public sections of the site, the tools available with membership, and what you can do when you see an error in a record.
1. Searching for a bird by ring number
The most reliable way to find a bird is the ring number search page. Type the ring together with the country code and year. If there is no result, check the separators and leading zeros; we explain the details of writing ring numbers in the ring number article.
An empty search result does not mean the bird has never taken part in a race. The race at the source may not have been imported into our system yet. Importing runs continuously in the background; new races and older seasons are added over time.
2. What do you see on a bird page?
Every bird has a public page. This page shows the bird's ring number and the race records imported into our system: the name of the race, its date, the bird's position, its velocity and the source. If a pedigree for the bird has been shared publicly, its bloodline information may also be visible.
Keep two points in mind when reading the information on the page:
- Race records are imported from the source. Corrections made at the source may reach our system with a delay.
- Assess positions not on their own but together with the number of entries and the race type. For this you can take a look at the race result article.
For privacy reasons, some personal information (for example loft names) may be shown abbreviated or hidden to visitors who are not logged in.
3. Live race centre
The live races page lists the races currently in progress, with country, organisation, distance and liberation information. On each race's page you can follow the number of birds released and arrived, the elapsed time and the order of the arriving birds. Live data is refreshed from the source at short intervals.
We explain when birds can be expected to arrive, and what may have happened when no birds appear for hours, in the race day article.
4. Bird archive and champions
The bird archive lets you browse the bird pages in our system in order. The champions page showcases standout birds and their achievements. The news centre presents news compiled from the world of pigeon racing, together with its sources.
5. Tools available with membership
Once an account has been opened, you can use tools to manage your own birds. Membership applications are open to everyone; the account is activated after administrator approval. Which tool is included in which package is listed in the packages section. The main tools are:
- Kümesim (My Loft): Lets you register your own birds with photo, colour and sex information, and link mates and youngsters to each other.
- Pedigree scanning and editing: Helps you upload a photo of a paper pedigree document, extract the boxes digitally, correct unreadable parts by comparing them with the document, and save it.
- Pedigree printout and sharing: You can produce a pedigree printout from the saved bloodline information and share your bird via a QR link. Before sharing, check the name and contact details that will appear on the printout.
- Data and analysis reports: Depending on the package, lets you see the race data of your bird and its family as a combined report.
6. If you see an error in a record
If you notice a wrong ring number, an incorrectly matched race result or a missing record, reporting it to us improves the accuracy of the records. To do so:
- Copy the link to the relevant bird page.
- Note what the error is and, if possible, the source of the correct information (official result page, photo of the document).
- Send it to the email address on the contact page.
For the ring details of birds registered to your own loft, you can also create a correction request from the bird page in your account. We explain where the data comes from and how it is corrected on the data sources page.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't my bird show up in the search?
The most common reason is that the race the bird took part in has not been imported yet. Next comes the ring being written differently: check the country code, the year and the leading zeros. If the bird does not appear in any imported race or any shared pedigree, it may not have a record in the system.
How often are results updated?
The live race list is refreshed every few minutes; arrivals on the page of an open race are updated more often. Importing of completed races and older seasons runs continuously in the background. Importing all the pages of large races can take time.
Will the pedigree I upload become public?
No, documents you upload to your own account stay in your account by default. Sharing a pedigree, creating a QR link or showing it in the showcase are separate steps and are done with your approval. Before sharing, check the information that will appear on the printout.
My bird has been matched incorrectly in a race result. What should I do?
Send the link to the bird page and the source of the correct information to our contact address. Ring corrections made afterwards at the source can also lead to such discrepancies; we correct the record after review.
