Last week members of the Nederlandse Postduivenhouders Organisatie (Hollanda Posta Güvercinleri Organizasyonu) were given the opportunity to express their views on the maximum number of pigeons that can be accepted per race. More than 1,300 breeders and competitors took part in the survey, and 76% of respondents wanted the current limit changed.
The survey results show that the majority support not only a change in the number but also a broader regulatory discussion. Statements emphasized that the issue is not limited solely to the maximum count and requires a more comprehensive assessment.
In respondents' comments, topics that stood out included championship statuses, the recording of race results, the scoring system, transport costs, outside-entry pigeons (invliegduiven) and overall organization. It was noted that evaluating these elements together is important for a forward-looking and fair sport.
The NPO published a summary and the main findings of the survey; details are available in the organisation's releases. It was stated that members and officials will continue exchanging views on the next steps in the discussion.
The results indicate that race rules cannot be reduced to simple entry limits alone; factors such as scoring, logistics and organization must also be considered in policymaking.
