NPO survey: Members want more participation, explanation and feedback

More than 260 pigeon enthusiasts responded to the survey conducted by the NPO; it was noted that because the number of participants is relatively small, the results may not exactly reflect the views of the entire community. Nevertheless, the NPO regards the collected data as valuable signals from the relevant group of pigeon fanciers.

The three main demands that emerged from the survey were: more participation and engagement, better explanation of the reasons behind decisions, and clear feedback on how submitted ideas are evaluated. Participants want to know that their signals have been heard and what steps will be taken in response.

Responses also emphasized that many issues are generally grouped under the name "NPO," and it is sometimes not clear which matters fall under NPO responsibility and which remain at the Afdelingen and Verenigingen level. This can lead to a perception that some requests are not being addressed.

The NPO reminds that the duivensport (racing pigeon sport) organization is structured at different levels; NPO, Ledenraad, Afdelingen (branches) and Verenigingen (associations) each have separate duties and responsibilities. It was stated that the federation's task is to safeguard the interests of the entire sport and that decision-making requires balancing various interests, opinions and feasibility.

Based on the survey results, the NPO has identified three priorities to improve communication: make it more visible what is done with incoming signals; better explain the assessments behind decisions; and clarify the areas of responsibility of the NPO, Afdelingen and Verenigingen. Ways will also be sought to reduce the distance between the national federation and local pigeon enthusiasts.

The NPO emphasizes that every piece of feedback is important; while surveys do not directly set policy, they help strengthen the ties between pigeon fanciers, associations, branches and the federation by improving information flow and clarifying responsibilities.
